Navy blue

Navy blue fascinates and scares me at the same time. I think it's because my school uniform in primary school was full navy blue (with a yellow emblem) and my high school was navy blue trousers with a royal blue jumper...18 years of wearing navy blue will probably put you off, right?

Whenever I spot a stylish woman wearing navy, I always wish that I could look that chic. For one, I always struggle with what shoes to wear. Black? Sometimes it looks great, other times it looks like an after-thought. Brown? Eeek. Tan, silver, grey or gold? Yes, all could work.

This week I found myself purchasing navy blue in abundance. Perhaps it's because I've been wearing far too much black lately (as a Melburnian I love black a little too much) but whatever it is, I'm hooked.

I purchased a v-neck cashmere jumper from Uniqlo (on Ines de la Fressange's must-have list), a navy polka-dot dress from Topshop, a Peter Pan collar velvet top from COS and a pair of navy suede heels from Carvella at Kurt Geiger. And finally, my Tom Ford optical glasses arrived in chocolate brown (black was too harsh), which compliment navy perfectly.

What are your thoughts on navy blue? Is it a colour that you either love or loathe? NHG x

  1. I think navy might be my favourite colour. Partly because it goes so well with my other two favourite shades - fuchsia and grey. And I like the fact that a rich navy looks more luxe than black, plus it's less commonplace. Your purchases look lovely :)

  3. I love the pieces you bought. I have been wearing more navy blue lately, in an attempt to reduce the amount of black clothing I wear! Although I do sometimes struggle with what colour is best to match with it. Glad I'm not the only one!x

  4. I love navy and like mixing it in with black and tan...for example...navy dress, black cardi, black tights, black shoes, tan belt, tan bag...maybe it shouldn't work but I think it does :)

  5. I really like navy blue but have very little of it in my wardrobe for some reason. The v neck jumper is lovely.
